Smith Square Hall by candlelight. Take a breath and sink into the rich harmonies of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s liturgical masterpiece.
The Purcell Singers are privileged to be celebrating Holy Week at Smith Square Hall with performance of Rachmaninoff’s iconic 1915 All-Night Vigil. Incorporating melodies from traditional chants and Rachmaninoff’s expressive and expansive style, it is one of the composer’s best-loved works.
Throughout its fifteen movements, it resonates deeply and globally with Christians, the spiritual, and those searching for answers.
Originally presented in a series of three services lasting from Saturday evening through to Sunday morning, we can now enjoy this glorious music in a single hour-long concert.
